The YMCA of Brisbane is one of South East Queensland's most recognisable not-for-profit community organisations. YMCA Social Impact is the benevolent arm of the YMCA which focuses on a range of services which include the YMCA vocational school, school breakfast programs, meals for the homeless, affordable housing and providing training to persons who would otherwise be at risk from unemployment.



The purpose of this volunteer role is to contribute to the effective and efficient operations of the YMCA Op Shops and Distribution. This volunteer position involves cleaning and sorting of any donated items, displaying them in the shop premises for sale and assisting with customer queries and sales.


Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Providing customer service to ensure an excellent shopping experience
  • Cash handling, register and EFTPOS operations where required
  • Processing “new” stock and applying pricing where directed
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe store



  • Acceptance of all backgrounds and cultures;
  • Non-judgemental attitude towards customers and/or their circumstances;
  • Ability to relate well to people; 
  • The ability to support fellow workers as part of a team;
  • Honesty in handling of all stock;
  • Neat, casual appearance and demeanour;
  • Willingness to foster an atmosphere of trust, stability and wellbeing with customers and other volunteers;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Currently possess, or be willing to obtain, a positive notice Blue Card
