Y Schools Queensland are recruiting their very first School Principal for our new Campus based in Toowoomba (pending NSSAB accreditation) starting Term 3, 2026.
As a key member of the Y Schools Queensland leadership team, as a School Principal you will provide strategic and operational leadership across our school. In this role, you will be accountable for student outcomes, staff performance, school operations, and regulatory compliance across the school. You will work closely in collaboration with functional leads in Wellbeing, Inclusion, Teaching & Learning, and Pathways. As the School Principal, you will ensure that school-wide frameworks, processes, and specialist expertise driven and developed by the functional leads are effectively embedded into campus operations
What will my time look like?
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Provide strategic and operational leadership within our Toowoomba Campus.
- Lead campus-specific improvement priorities aligned with the Y Schools Queensland Strategic Plan, vision, and values
- Ensure operational integration of the academic, wellbeing, pathways, and inclusion pillars through collaboration with the Teacher in Charge, Senior Youth Worker, and other middle leaders
Capability Building and Staff Development
- Lead, coach, and develop all staff within the directly managed campus, and provide leadership, recruitment oversight, and performance management
- Facilitate regular coaching, feedback, and professional development for middle leaders to build capability, support distributed leadership, and enable succession planning across both campuses
Implementation of School-Wide Frameworks
- Embed school-wide frameworks, programs, and processes—developed and driven by functional leads—into campus operations, ensuring fidelity to approved policies, programs, and processes, while adapting to local context where appropriate.
- Monitor and report on implementation effectiveness, provide feedback to functional leads, and ensure all staff are trained in and consistently apply agreed approaches
Financial and Resource Management
- Manage the budget for the directly managed campus and oversee budget accountability for the second campus via the Head of Campus.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet student needs and operational efficiency
General Requirements
- Support the management of a workplace that supports diversity including gender, cultural and generational diversity; provide equal employment opportunity and foster a respectful, inclusive workplace.

- Maintain confidentiality of all YMCA information, records and files.
- Complete the YMCA Induction and other required training as required by organisational policy and procedures.

- Any other duties as determined by the Chief Executive Officer as required
Am I a good match?
- Current registered teaching qualifications, with postgraduate qualifications in Education and/or Educational Leadership.
- Significant and successful leadership experience in an educational setting, including multi-campus oversight and direct line management of senior or middle leaders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the educational challenges facing disengaged young people and the innovative, evidence-based methods required to achieve wellbeing, academic, and pathways outcomes.
- Proven ability to embed school-wide frameworks, policies, and programs—developed by functional leads—into campus operations, ensuring fidelity and consistency across sites.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders, and to plan and apply behaviour support strategies that foster safe and supportive learning environments.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to influence the educational agenda to improve outcomes for disengaged young people.
- Proven experience in leading, coaching, and developing staff, including the provision and receipt of constructive feedback to enhance performance and program delivery.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain an organisational culture aligned with Y Schools Queensland’s vision, mission, and values.
