Within the Social Impact arm of the YMCA, Y-Care, the Training and Enterprise team exist to create pathways to employment and contribute to the financial sustainability of our charitable programs.  YMCA’s Training and Enterprise team also lead the facilitation of Government funded programs such as Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiatives.  This role is a Traineeship within one of the four SQW programs being offered in 2022.

There are six (6) full-time 18 week fixed-term Land Care Assistant Traineeship roles available where Trainees will completed an accredited training program and be provided with hands on tasks that align with that learning. 

 

ABOUT THE ROLES

 

The Enterprise and Training team office is located in Parkinson and participants require the capability to work at community centres and education facilities from Springfield Lakes to Cannon Hill.  Some activities of the roles require our team to work in community and education settings within which may have vaccination restrictions.  The successful candidate must be able to evidence their compliance with the existing Government restrictions and mandates including holding or being eligible to hold a Blue Card (Working with Children Check).

 

Trainees will learn many aspects of conservation including identifying native and non-native flora and fauna, seed identification and cultivation, basic nursery work, maintaining land and land clearing and waste management innovations, basic garden planning and design, including applicable tool and equipment maintenance.

Essential:

 

  • You must have working rights in Australia to be able to apply for this position.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn about conservation, ecosystem management and their natural environment around them.
  • A passion for the outdoors and aspirations for a career in conservation and or land care.
  • The applicant must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
  • Vaccinations as required per the mandates and legislations currently in force.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Language, literacy and numeracy skills that sufficiently afford the participant the best opportunity to learn at Certificate I level, although support can be provided for those who require extra support.
  • Demonstrated capacity to participate positively in a team environment and work across various site location types such as community centres and early childhood education facilities.
  • Own transport and/or access to reliable transport as the role may require earlier starts as the weather warms

Trainees will complete a Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management as part of the paid traineeship.
