YMCA Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) services care for children before school, after school and during holidays across 50+ school sites throughout South East Queensland. We are the fastest growing OSHC provider in the South East which in turn provides our staff with the ability to grow and move through the company as their careers head to the next level.
ABOUT THE WORKSPACE
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Educational Leader for our YMCA Marsden Outside School Hours Care (OSHC). This is a Casual position.
YMCA Marsden Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) has its own building conveniently located on school grounds, a community garden with chickens and access to multiple playgrounds and outdoor spaces. This includes a playground located conveniently next to the OSHC room which has recently been refurbished.
Although quite small in the mornings, our growing service caters to around 60 children in the afternoons and celebrates the uniqueness of each child. Marsden works to give each child a voice at the service, with a child-centred and child led program which embraces diversity and the community in which we live.
Our service philosophy prioritises community and belonging, children’s agency and the importance of spontaneous, multi-age play in middle childhood. We offer a range of planned and spontaneous play experiences for children and welcome educators with unique skill sets to share with children.
ABOUT THE POSITION
This position will lead the development and implementation of the education program by promoting children’s well-being, development and learning by helping the children develop values, attitudes and ways of living and learning.
The responsibilities of an Educational Leader also include (but are not limited to):
- Lead the development and implementation of the educational program and assessment with the support of Assistant Coordinator/Coordinator
- Ensure children’s learning and development informs the design of the educational program, and Educators facilitate and extend each child’s learning and development
- Liaise effectively with parents, staff and all internal and external stakeholders
- Make recommendations for improvements to Educators’ educational programs and practices
- Mentor and support Educators understanding of the educational program and practice including how to reflect on the effectiveness of their programs, interactions, intentional teaching and other strategies
- Ensure compliance with policy
- Undertake administrative requirements
- Work collaboratively with families and the school community
SELECTION CRITERIA
- A Diploma in Children’s Services or equivalent and demonstrated experience in Early Childhood Education
- Minimum three years’ experience in an Early Childhood Education and Care setting
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the approved learning framework;
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comprehensive working knowledge of child development, attachment, learning
- A demonstrated understanding of evidence-based best practice approaches to teaching and learning
- Working knowledge of leadership theory and the use of a range of leadership styles
- Well-developed critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyse and challenge conventional practice and ideas
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- Currently possess, or be willing to obtain a Blue Card
