Y Schools Queensland Senior Logan Campus are recruiting a Vocational Trainer (Mechanic) on a Fixed-term Full-Time basis to support in our School based in Kingston.
About the role
As a Mechanical Trainer here at Y Schools, you will deliver engaging and industry-relevant automotive programs that re-engage young people in learning, build confidence, and prepare them for further training or work. Working within Y Schools Queensland’s Pathways pillar, the role focuses on hands-on skill development, employability, and fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment that supports wellbeing and belonging.
What will my time look like?
- Plan, deliver, assess and evaluate automotive training programs to meet industry standards and Y Schools’ RTO requirements.
- Deliver flexible, competency-based training that responds to individual learning needs and interests.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with young people to encourage attendance and participation.
- Support students in exploring career pathways, job readiness and work placement opportunities.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers, TAFEs and automotive industry networks.
- Maintain accurate training, attendance and assessment records in accordance with RTO and Y Queensland requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student and organisational information.
- Complete required professional learning and compliance tasks (e.g. Safeguarding, WHS, SuccessFactors) within set timeframes.
Am I a good match?
- Trade Qualification as a Mechanic, a minimum of 3 to 5 years post qualified industry experience
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment - TAE40110, TAE40116 or TAE40122.
- Certificate IV in Youth Work – CHC40421 (desirable but not essential.)
- Demonstrated experience delivering accredited and/or pre-vocational automotive training to young people.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and support young people who have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from education.
- Proven understanding of RTO compliance and QCAA requirements (desirable).
- Experience in alternative education or special assistance school settings (desirable).
- Strong communication skills to maintain and grow business relationships with all key stakeholders (Community Organisations, Students, School staff, Industry partners etc.).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Current Senior First Aid and CPR Certificate or willing to obtain.
- Currently possess, or be willing to obtain, a positive Blue Card in accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 prior to commencement.
- Hold a Positive Notice Blue Card, or willingness to obtain one
