YMCA Vocational Schools, part of The YMCA Brisbane, provide adjusted education programs and vocational training to secondary students, who would benefit from an alternative learning environment. With campuses across Queensland (Kingston, Bundamba, Ipswich, North Lakes, Mango Hill, Redlands, Parkinson, Acacia Ridge and Bundaberg), the school supports students on their journey to employment. Students participate in programs dedicated to enhancing practical and personal skills, at a pace that encourages school attendance, engagement and confidence.


YMCA Vocational Schools are now recruiting a English and History Teacher on a Permanent, full time basis to join our friendly and dynamic team at Senior Logan Campus located in Kingston.


ABOUT THE ROLE

The role of a English and History Teacher is to deliver academic and wellbeing programs to students, support the delivery of vocational training programs and support the Head of Campus in operation of the campus to achieve educational, wellbeing and vocational objectives.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Create and deliver lessons in accordance with the guidelines and parameters provided by the Head of Curriculum’s Wellbeing Framework
  • Produce and distribute student academic and wellbeing reports prior to the conclusion of each school semester
  • Collaborate constructively and positively with all school staff across both campuses, in the development and evaluation of curriculum
  • Respond to the needs of students, their parent(s) and/or carer(s) and wider community to ensure the quality of service meets agreed standards



SELECTION CRITERIA

 

The ideal candidate will be looking for a challenge, have a passion for working with young people, a strong interest in the development of the holistic person, a personal interest in health and fitness, spirituality, personal well-being and values and ongoing professional development.

 

They will also have:

  • A relevant Bachelor degree and current Queensland Teacher Registration
  • Demonstrated experience as a Secondary Teacher, English and History preferred 
  • The ability to plan and prepare teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students who are at risk of disengaging from education, whilst ensuring the program is consistent with the relevant syllabi, curriculum policies and vocational objectives
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students, including the use of appropriate interpersonal skills
  • The ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive learning environment
  • First Aid and CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain them
  • National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one

     

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

A salary commensurate with experience and qualifications will be offered to the successful candidate, plus the ability to salary package (up to $15,900pa).
