Y Schools Queensland Ipswich Campus are recruiting a Deputy Principal on a Permanent Full-Time basis to join our team based in Ipswich
As Deputy Principal, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership of the school/campus, ensuring effective implementation of educational, wellbeing, pathway and operational systems that support positive outcomes for students and staff. You will provide visible, values-aligned leadership across the Ipswich campus and supports the consistent delivery of the Academic, Wellbeing and Pathways pillars within a trauma-aware, student-centred approach.
What will my time look like?
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the school/campus, ensuring delivery of the Academic, Wellbeing and Pathways pillars in line with the Y Schools Strategic Plan, and ensuring fidelity to school-wide frameworks, programs and processes developed and approved by functional leads.
- Support the School Principal to implement school and campus improvement priorities, embedding approved policies, programs and practices that achieve student outcome targets in line with legislative, registration and compliance requirements.
Staff Leadership and Capability
- Provide operational leadership and direct supervision of school staff as delegated by the School Principal, ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly and in line with Y Schools policies, procedures and approved frameworks.
- Support recruitment processes for school/campus roles, including advertising, shortlisting, interviewing and selection, in consultation with the School Principal and relevant functional leads, ensuring all compliance and screening requirements are met.
- Mentor and coach staff to strengthen teaching, wellbeing, youth work, inclusion and pathways practices, ensuring alignment to frameworks led by Teaching and Learning, Wellbeing, Inclusion and Pathways functional leads.
Operational and Resource Management
- Support the School Principal to manage operational resourcing, monitor expenditure, and ensure resources are deployed effectively to meet student, staffing and program needs within approved budget parameters.
- Ensure operational processes support accurate census, enrolment, attendance, funding and compliance data, with timely and accurate reporting to the School Principal.
Student Enrolment, Outcomes and Engagement
- Support and oversee student enrolment, induction, orientation and record-keeping processes in line with legislative, registration and policy requirements, ensuring accurate compliance
- Coordinate parent/carer engagement activities, student reporting, communication and feedback processes, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
General Requirements

- Maintain confidentiality of all YMCA information, records and files.
- Complete the YMCA Induction and other required training as required by organisational policy and procedures.

- Any other duties as determined by the Chief Executive Officer as required.
Am I a good match?
- Current Registered Teaching Qualifications, with postgraduate qualifications in Education and/or Educational Leadership highly regarded.
- Significant and successful leadership experience in an educational setting, including operational leadership, staff supervision and student engagement responsibilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the educational challenges facing disengaged young people and the innovative methods needed to help them achieve wellbeing, academic and pathways outcomes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/carers, staff and external stakeholders, including the use of appropriate interpersonal skills and behaviour support approaches that contribute to a safe, supportive learning environment.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to use attendance, engagement, behaviour, learning and pathway data to inform improvement strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in giving and receiving feedback in relation to staff performance, professional practice and program delivery effectiveness.
- Ability to effectively lead, supervise and coordinate staff to deliver high quality organisational and student outcomes.
