We are recruiting a Work Health & Safety Advisor on a Permanent Part-Time and Full time basis to join our team based in Fortitude Valley, QLD.


 

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

This position supports and assists the WH&S Manager in the development, maintenance and implementation of the YMCA safety management systems (SMS), safety culture and general WH&S activities across the YMCA of Brisbane and YMCA Social Impact, ensuring compliance and best practice work health and safety initiatives and work practices for the purpose of achieving strategic business objectives.

In addition to the above, responsibilities of a Work Health & Safety Advisor include (but not limited to):

  • Acting as WH&S Business Partner delivering advise and support to establishment managers across the business operations and provides the full range of general health and safety services and activities
  • Support the implementation of the YMCA safety management system, to ensure compliance and health and safety performance across the organization
  • Providing support and guidance in accordance with organisational WH&S policies and procedures, legislation, regulations and codes of practice to establishment managers, supervisory staff and other key stakeholders regarding health and safety matters
  • Participate in the review, development and delivery of WH&S education and training programs to ensure appropriate competency is achieved and maintained
  • Conduct periodic safety assessment audits of YMCA worksites
  • Conduct effective investigations of workplace injuries and near miss incidents as required
  • Assist with the rehabilitation and claims management process of injured workers

 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work, Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of WH&S frameworks and methodology, Queensland WH&S legislation, codes of practice and related legislation
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, codes of practice through a safety management system
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling, conducting safety audits, report writing and presentation of incident investigation data analysis to management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risks and controls associated with hazardous chemicals, manual tasks, plant and machinery and other high-risk work
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting incident investigations and identification of corrective and preventative actions and ability to facilitate and prepare risk assessments and safe work procedures
  • Unrestricted Class C Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy in software applications including Microsoft Office suite of programs
