As the social impact arm of the YMCA of Brisbane, Y-Care trades as YMCA Social Impact and exists to serve people in our community who are disadvantaged. Social Impact's programs each operate in different areas but share the common theme of assisting people to overcome the challenges they face in body, mind and spirit. Services and programs managed by Social Impact fall under the following four focus areas: Youth and Education, Breakfast Program, Social Housing and Social Enterprise.

Research, impact measurement and evaluation is a capacity builder across each of these program areas.



The YMCA is seeking a Research and Evaluation Manager to help maximise its social impact and drive program continuous improvement and innovation. The Research and Evaluation Manager will lead the development of its evidence-based evaluation program. 


The Research and Evaluation Manager will be responsible for:


  • The development and implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks across a range of program areas in order to measure their impact and inform continuous improvement;
  • Supporting the development of a MEL culture through building organisational capacity;
  • Supporting the integration of MEL into organisational strategic planning creating data informed decision making;
  • Supporting operational staff in the identification of continuous improvement opportunities to maximise impact across each program
  • The development of quarterly impact summaries and an annual consolidated Social Impact report;
  • Initiating and managing externally led research projects with University partners;
  • Fostering productive partnerships with key external stakeholders.



The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the YMCA's mission, vision and values and will be able to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Service or relevant discipline with an evaluation and monitoring component
  • Demonstrated experience in leading MEL of program and projects in the not-for-profit sectors
  • Strong demonstrated ability in building an organisational evaluation culture, including building the capacity or staff at all levels in the use of monitoring and evaluation approaches, with experience in organisational change, coaching, facilitation and delivering hands-on practical training
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Computer literacy and prior experience using a range of office software including Word, Excel and SPSS
  • Demonstrated well-developed project coordination skills and relevant recent experience;
  • Possess or willingness to obtain a Blue Card and a national criminal history check prior to commencement of employment;
  • Current Driver's licence;
